Abstract: In this talk Dr. Leyva will give a broad introduction to the Aerospace Engineering Department at Texas A&M University from the perspective of student education and faculty research.Ìý She will present how the department is organized into several research/teaching groups and give examples of research being carried out at the Department.Ìý She will close with an overview of her own research.

Bio: Dr. Ivett A. Leyva became the head of the Department of Aerospace Engineering at Texas A&M University in September 2021. Previously, she was the program officer for Hypersonic Aerodynamics at the Air Force Office of Scientific 91ÃÛÌÒ¸ó where she created two basic research flight programs. Her research expertise is in hypersonic aerodynamics. Ìý

Leyva holds a bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degree from Caltech. She has six patents and has authored numerous papers and two book chapters. She is a fellow of the American Institute for Aeronautics and Astronautics and the Air Force 91ÃÛÌÒ¸ó Laboratory, a National Associate of the National 91ÃÛÌÒ¸ó Council of the National Academies, and a recipient of a Civilian Achievement Medal and two meritorious Civilian Service Awards and Medals from the Air Force.
