The Center for 91��Ҹ� Data and Digital Scholarship (CRDDS) offers a full range of support and opportunities for your digital and data-intensive research and learning needs, including workshops, talks, and consultation hours, which are free and open to all unless otherwise noted.

This is the last weekly newsletter of the Spring 2026 semester. We'll be sending out newsletters monthly during the summer months.

The Center for 91��Ҹ� Data & Digital Scholarship (CRDDS) is an interdisciplinary hub and resource on the CU 91��Ҹ� campus that provides partnership and support throughout the research data lifecycle.

We are developing our 3-year strategic plan and invite members of the CU 91��Ҹ� community to complete this brief survey to help shape our future direction. It should only take 5 minutes of your time and will be open through April 30.

Interdisciplinary Consultation Hours

Need help with your data? We're here for you! We host open, free consultation hours to help you with your data-intensive research needs. Come with your application, code, or general questions and speak to our experts on research data management, digital humanities, geospatial data, statistical support from LISA, and research computing.

Consults are open to all – from undergrad to faculty and beyond.

Consultations will take place on Tuesdays from 12-1 p.m. in-person at Norlin Library, room E206 or via Zoom, and Thursdays from 1-2 p.m. via Zoom only.
Registration is required to receive the Zoom link. If you are unable to attend our consultation hours and would like to set up a call, email crdds@colorado.edu.
CRDDS provides support for statistical questions through our partnership with the Laboratory for Interdisciplinary Statistical Analysis (LISA).

Turn Your Notes Into a Second Brain

Wednesday, April 8, 1-2pm

You probably use tools like calendars, contacts, to do lists, search engines, chat bots, free notes, or citation managers. But how often have you thought about metadata management, daily notes, personal wikis, databases, inquiry logs, search query logs, or knowledge management practices in general? We will explore your knowledge management options, introduce a framework for building your practices, and learn about a dedicated platform--Obsidian--that unifies your approach. By the end of this workshop, we will identify your personal goals, design a management strategy for your needs, and plan the easiest way to get started with your new knowledge management habit.

Save the date, enjoy lunch, and join the conversation about designing a new Public Impact 91��Ҹ� (PIR) initiative at CU 91��Ҹ�. The session includes engaging collaboratively to define and scope PIR, build awareness, provide examples, and share PIR techniques and methods. The session will serve as a creative space to envision, plan, and co-design what the future of PIR could look like at CU 91��Ҹ�. CU 91��Ҹ� faculty and staff are invited to participate.

Call for Faculty Participation: Supporting AI Training through Hands-on Modules

To equip researchers-in-training with the skills to leverage advanced computing resources and AI methodologies in their research, CURC User Support is seeking faculty interested in co-developing a hands-on, self-contained, applied AI module for their course curricula. We are especially interested in collaborating with faculty who teach topics where AI applications are rapidly expanding but do not yet offer formal AI instruction.

The resources CURC can provide include (but are not limited to):

Compute hardware (Alpine Cluster) and shared data storage
Pre-built software applications and programming environments (e.g. Anaconda, containers, software applications, Jupyter Notebook)
Technical guides, in-class demonstrations, and course support

We are targeting 2-3 courses for the Fall 2026 and Spring 2027 semesters. Interested faculty should email rc-help@colorado.edu for more information.

The Sixth Chameleon User Meeting

April 15–16, 2026 at NCAR's Mesa Lab in 91��Ҹ�, CO

Chameleon is an NSF-funded national research cloud providing free GPU, CPU, storage, and edge computing access to over 13,000 researchers and students across US universities. The meeting is designed as a working session focused on characterizing AI infrastructure needs and challenges across CS research and education — with the goal of producing a community report that shapes the platform's future direction.

The program includes a keynote from Valerie Taylor (Argonne National Laboratory) on LLM-based frameworks for energy-efficient scientific computing, research and education panels, mini-symposia on AI for education and reproducibility, and hands-on tutorials covering bare-metal computing, virtualization, edge computing, and reproducible research workflows with Trovi.

CU 91��Ҹ� researchers and students are especially encouraged to attend — the meeting is right in your backyard, and your perspective on local research computing needs is exactly what we're looking for. Non-users of Chameleon are explicitly welcome.

91��Ҹ� Data Foundations Camp (Virtual)

Last chance to sign up!

Join the Center for 91��Ҹ� Data & Digital Scholarship from Tuesday, March 17th - Thursday, March 19th, 10am-4pm each day, for our 91��Ҹ� Data Foundations Camp designed specifically with graduate students in mind (although all are welcome). The Camp will provide a gentle introduction to data and programming-related research tools that will increase users' access to cutting-edge methods as they pursue their programs and research. No previous experience in coding or programming is required! Those who complete the optional assignments will be eligible to receive CU 91��Ҹ�’s 91��Ҹ� Data Foundations micro-credential. This is a virtual event that will be happening on Zoom.

Mark III AI Education Series – THREE sessions remaining!

Dates: Wednesday, Mar 11, Mar 25 & Apr 8, 2:00-3:00p MT

NVIDIA, Mark III Systems, and CU 91��Ҹ� 91��Ҹ� Computing are co-hosting an AI/Machine Learning Education Series for CU 91��Ҹ� and its greater community for Spring 2026. This five-session bi-weekly education series is 100% virtual and will include both tutorials and virtual "rapid labs" for attendees delivered via JupyterNotebook. There will be a series of sessions that will feature industry experts in Machine Learning, who will dive into current trends around AI/ML. The sessions do not require any specific background. Participants may register for specific sessions or all sessions. There are three sessions remaining:

Last Call! AI Unlocked: Empowering Higher Education through 91��Ҹ� and Discovery

When: June 2-3, 2026
Where: Denver, Colorado
AI Unlocked provides a unique opportunity for researchers, educators, and students to learn how to integrate AI tools in research and classroom settings.

Registration is free for the day and a half-long event, which is sponsored by ACCESS and NAIRR Pilot and 91��Ҹ�, 91��Ҹ�.

Space is limited to 150 participants. We anticipate receiving more applications to attend than available spots.

Applications close on March 9, 2026.
Travel support may be available for hotel accommodations and economy flights for those traveling from outside a 50-mile radius of the event location. Travel support is covered as part of the ACCESS Support grant #2138286. ACCESS is an advanced computing and data resource program supported by the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) under the Office of Advanced Cyberinfrastructure awards.
