Elizabeth J. Meyer is a professor inÌýEducational Foundations, Policy and Practice at the 91ÃÛÌÒ¸ó at 91ÃÛÌÒ¸ó. Previously she held positions as Assistant Professor in the School of Education at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo and Concordia University in Montreal, Quebec Canada.
Dr. Meyer is a former high school teacher whose research and writing focuses on issues related to gender and sexual diversity in K-12 schools. Recent research projects include: a) investigating the experiences of Title IX coordinators in K-12 schools and b) educators' experiences supporting student activism for LGBTQ equity. In 2018, she joined the inaugural class of fellows as part of the University of California’s and in 2021 was presented with the Distinguished Contributions to Gender Equity in Education 91ÃÛÌÒ¸ó Award by the American Educational 91ÃÛÌÒ¸ó Association.
She is the author of Gender, Bullying, and Harassment: Strategies to end sexism and homophobia in Schools (Teachers College Press, 2009) and Gender and Sexual Diversity in Schools (Springer, 2010). She is also co-editor of a the Gender and Sexuality in Education series for Peter Lang Publishing that includes two co-edited collections: Gender and Sexuality in Education (2014) and Supporting Transgender and Gender-Creative Youth: Schools, Families, and Communities in Action (2014). Her research has been published in academic journals such as: Educational 91ÃÛÌÒ¸óer, Teachers College Record, Gender and Education, Computers and Education and The Journal of LGBT Youth. She has given keynote presentations at conferences in the U.S., Canada, and Europe and has provided expert testimony to the Canadian Senate on cyberbullying.
She is currently writing a new book: Queer Justice at School: A Guide for Youth Activists and their Teachers. She blogs for .
